Major General Ehsan Mehmood Khan, HI (M) was commissioned in Pakistan Army in April 1989 in Punjab Regiment. He is a graduate of Command and Staff College Quetta, National Defence University Islamabad, National Defence Advanced Center Madrid, Spain and National Defense University, Washington DC, USA.

He has varied experience of command, staff and instructions. He served in a Northern Light Infantry (NLI) Battalion and commanded a Light Anti-Tank Battalion of Punjab Regiment, a deployed Infantry Brigade in FCNA and Force Command Northern Areas (Gilgit-Baltistan). His major staff assignments include Brigade Major of a deployed Infantry Brigade, General Staff Officer Grade-1 & Deputy Director in Military Operations Directorate at General Headquarters, Director Analysis and Plans in ISPR and Director General National Guards in General Headquarters. On instructional side, he has been on faculty of Pakistan Military Academy Kakul and Directing Staff with National Security and War Course in NDU Islamabad.

He has authored two books, a number of research papers in scholarly journals and several other articles. He holds Masters degree in Strategic Security Studies from NDU Washington D.C, M.Phil in Security Studies and PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from NDU Islamabad. His areas of study include Comprehension National Security, Military Strategy, Human Security, Hybrid Warfare and Peace and Conflict Studies.

He is serving as Director General Institute for Strategic Studies Research and Analysis (ISSRA) at NDU Islamabad since May 2021.
