Rear Admiral Zain is a second generation military officer. He received his commission in the operations branch of Pakistan Navy in 1987. After completing initial training, served onboard a destroyer as operations officer and onboard a fleet tanker as navigating officer.
Joined Naval aviation as a helicopter pilot in 1990. Served in Anti Submarine and Anti Surface vessel helicopter Squadrons and is a qualified instructor pilot on Sea King, Allouette and Schewizer helicopters.
Graduate of PN War College, PLA Command College Nanjing, China, and National Defence University, Islamabad. Important assignments include Command of a helicopter squadron, Command of an air wing, Principle Staff Officer with Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Liaison Officer at US CENTCOM Tempa, Florida, Director Naval Operation Plans at NHQ and Directing staff at National Defence University Islamabad. As a Cdre , he had the privilage to command a Petrol Craft Squadron and Naval Aviation. Recipient of Sitar-e- Isar for undertaking extensive flying operations during the devastating earthquake that hit Pakistan in 2005 and SI(M) for meritorious services.
Presently serving as CI AOD, NDU. Happily married and blessed with two sons and a daughter.
Hobbies include plastic scale modeling, Radio Control Flying. Avid collector of Naval qualification badges and aviation patches (Largest known collection in Pakistan).
